GIUSEPPE CAROZZI
Milano 1864 - Montecarlo 1938
He began in 1881 when he was frequenting the Faculty of Medicine in Milan, but at the end he changed of mind and got his doctorate in Law in Bologna. Friend and pupil of Riccardo Pasqualini and Auguste Cezanne. He painted first some sea-coasts landscapes but later he changed and started painting mountains with crepuscular tendency and effects and under the influence first of Fontanesi and then of Carcano, with whom he became friend, they began to travel together trying to follow the technic of Segantini. He exposed in 1894 at the IInd Triennale of Brera, then at the Biennale of Venice; in 1898 he was at the General Exposition of Turin, then he began to get some successes at the foreings: Berlin, Petersburgh, Copenhagen, Paris. He directed the"Famiglia artistica" ("Artistic Family of Milan") organizating the exposition of Como and the one of Lombard Painting of the XIXth century at the Permanente of Milan. In 1912 the Biennale of Venezia dedicated him a room with 22 works and let him take part of the jury. In 1920 he exposed at the XIIth Biennale of Venice and in 1921 he organized in Milan a very big personal exposition. From 1922 to 1930 he was still present in theVenitians Biennali.
