Being orphan of the father, he was intrusted to an uncle Hight Priest. To earn some money to live, until the age of twenty he been an itinerant draper and because of this continual displacement from a place to another, the view of always new landscapes of his region and of the Apennines, contribueted to mature his vocation for painting. After the age of twenty he frequented the Accademy of Brera (Milan) and in this period he was under the influence of Carcano and Gignous. In 1882 he won the Prize Fumagalli with the work " Mills on the Adige" and in the same year he took part at the Expo of Rome. In 1912 he went to live in Verona.
